Due to projected 0 degree wind chill temperatures, the Rockford and Machesney Park facilities will be closed Saturday, January 20th for public donations.

KNIB is proud to support Cell Phones For Soldiers. This recycling program is promoted each May and November.  Additionally, cell phones can be dropped off at our Recycling Centers anytime we are open to the public.

We accept the following (working or broken):

  • Smart phones
  • Ipads
  • Tablets
  • MP3 players
  • Chargers

Battery removal from the unit is not required.  Loose batteries without a unit will not be accepted.

Cell Phones For Soldiers is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to providing cost free communication services and emergency funding to active duty military members and veterans. This organization uses proceeds from donated cell phones to purchase international calling cards for troops calling home.  They also provide emergency funding to veterans. Since 2004, this charity has provided more than 400 million minutes of air time to US servicemen and women deployed around the world, while recycling more than 25 million cell phones and reducing the impact on landfills.
