Medications & Sharps

Many pharmacies have disposal containers

which will allow you to dispose of small quantities

of medications or have sharps disposal programs.

Call individual stores for information.

OSF Healthcare has a safe and secure drug disposal box

at the hospital. Both prescription and non-prescription

drugs can be dropped off year-round.

https://www.osfhealthcare.org/pharmacy/services/drug-disposal/

Rockford residents can drop off unused medication at

Rockford City Hall or District Police Stations. The Rockford

Police Department's Drug Collection Unit sites are open to

the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

excluding holidays. Remove medication from its original

container and place medication in a clear Ziplock bag (up to

a gallon). Citizens may drop off up to one 1-gallon bag

per visit per week.

Latex Paint

Dry latex paint can be safely discarded in the

trash. Allow the paint to dry out completely;

use kitty litter or similar absorbents as needed.

If there is no hurry, hang on to that paint a little

longer: a new Illinois law was signed in July of 2023

to begin a state-wide no-fee latex paint recycling

program that should be operational by early 2025.

Paint will be dropped off at local retail stores for

collection, then processed for recycling and reuse.
